Zizzi on The Brayford

Zizzi Lincoln on the BrayfordThe brand new Zizzi Restaurant comes to Lincoln and takes up prime positioning on the Brayford Pool, but what’s it actually like?

Well upon entering the restaurant the original impressions were very good, a contemporary minimalistic decor with colourful strip lights and indoor white trees certainly create an interesting view but it’s the large open kitchen set at the back of the restaurant with a huge stone fire oven that is the key focal point.

The menu itself won’t be a surprise to anyone who has been to a Zizzi franchise previously, a fairly typical range of Italian pasta’s, pizzas, chicken and fish but with a large choice on offer there is something for most tastes.  The wine menu is a pretty standard fair, we plumped for a £17 bottle of young sicilian wine which wasn’t offensive but a similar tasting and quality of wine could normally be had at a restaurant for under ten pounds.

The food was served promptly and it was noticed just how many staff were on shift on a Friday evening, everywhere you looked there was waiting staff and as the restaurant was busy it was a pleasant surprise to have attentive service, I’d like to think this will continue past the honeymoon opening period of the restaurant.

Main courses were generous portions for the price which ranged from £8-13 and presented well.  The taste was pretty good on the whole, one of the chicken dishes did taste as though it was a frozen dish and as a butterfly chicken breast it had been flattened into oblivion to increase its size on the plate which was a particular shame but the pasta dishes tasted very fresh and flavoursome.

Overall it was a pleasant dining experience for what is a chain restaurant and the price paid was reasonable for the quality and size of portions.  I’d say this just edges over Ask as the best Italian restaurant on the Brayford and surpasses Prezzo with quite some ease.

What are you talking about ’ just edges over ASK Italian, NO WAY the food in ASK Italian is by far better quality, more authentic and much more delicious- not to mention the staff actually smile whilst serving you which is more than i can say for Zizzi!
