Lincolnista visits ASK Italian Restaurant

ASK Italian Restaurant LincolnNew menu, new style, new outlook but is it enough to be the Italian restaurant to beat on the Brayford?

It would be fair to say that competition is pretty fierce amongst Italian restaurants on the Brayford, in only a short space of time and even shorter length of pavement, Prezzo and Zizzi have both sprung up offering typical Italian food.

Prezzo was the first and only restaurant in Lincoln to receive Lincolnista’s worst rating of 1 star, the review can be seen here - http://www.bit.ly/pyQbYs

Lincolnista was there for the opening of Zizzi and we were very impressed particularly with the atmosphere, that review can be read here - http://www.bit.ly/lfduXh

So that left ASK as a close contender to the title of best Italian on the Brayford but Lincolnista had Zizzi just pipping them to the post.  That was until ASK announced a new menu and a new commitment to bring the best tastes of Italy so Lincolnista just had to go and see if there would be a new champion.

Our visit was on a Sunday afternoon and the restaurant was fairly quiet but had a number of families and couples in enjoying a sunny day on the Brayford Pool.  One of the best things about ASK is its full front of glass so you can people watch to your hearts content.

The service was excellent and there was some nice design touches that had been added to the decor since our last visit, particularly the range of quirky glasses that made for an interesting talking point.  All that was needed to make for a perfect visit was some tasty and authentic italian cuisine, so did it live up to our hopes?  Well the simple answer is yes.  The food tasted and looked fresh and was presented immaculately.

What we particularly liked and what set it apart from other Italian restaurant chains is that the food didn’t look mass produced or zapped in a microwave to keep service speeds as low as possible.  Aesthetically the food looked like it was going to taste great and it absolutely did.  Another welcome note was the size of the portions, the pizzas being particularly well topped.

If we had one area for improvement for ASK it would be the atmosphere, they’ve gone for a very trendy minimalistic feel to the restaurant which suits its surroundings very well but they just need to be careful that it doesn’t feel too cold.  Although we do appreciate creating a buzz and atmosphere at 3pm on a Sunday afternoon isn’t going to be easy it would be just another area where ASK could excel and clearly become the number one choice on the Brayford and not just amongst the Italians.

So do we have a new king amongst italian cuisine on the Brayford?  Lincolnista certainly thinks so, but why don’t you find out for yourself thanks to some fantastic deals here - http://www.askrestaurant-offers.co.uk
