Electric Bar and Restaurant

The Electric Bar and Restaurant Review LincolnThe new Double Tree Hilton didn’t just bring a fantastic new hotel to the city, they also bought a new bar and dining experience in the way of The Electric.  Lincolnista took a visit to see what all the fuss was about.

As if 2012 wasn’t going to be exciting enough with both Tokyo and Home Nightclubs now open and bringing fantastic live music and new nights to the City as well as Sakura closing to make way for a new Lola Lo Tiki Bar, we’ve now got a stunning new hotel of exceptional quality to boast of.

Just as importantly as the new hotel, is The Electric Bar and Restaurant housed inside the hotel.  Named ‘The Electric’ after the former electric board use of the site the bar and restaurant sits on the 5th floor of the hotel and provides picture perfect views of the City and Lincoln Cathedral.

The Electric bar specialises in cocktails with such favourites as Bellinis, Martinis and Mojitos along side many more delicious drinks to excite the tastebuds.  The Lincolnista girls all wanted to try a Strawberry Smash, a Piper-Hiedsieck Brut Champagne cocktail layered with strawberry and vanilla, which must’ve been good because it didn’t take long for them to be on their second glass!  The boys keen to try something a bit different elected for a round of ‘Dark ‘n’ Stormy’ cocktails, this tantalising blend of Kracken Black Spiced Rum and ginger beer are a perfect match; as well as apparently being the national cocktail of Bermuda.

The Electric Restaurant is in a clean and contemporary decorated room, leaning towards being plain but it doesn’t take long to realise why, the full glazed wall running down the entire length of the restaurant provides all the atmosphere and viewing pleasure you could ask for.  But you’re not there to just gaze out the window at the beautifully lit Cathedral, no you’re there to experience the food and what an experience it was.

To sum up the style of the food you wouldn’t go too far wrong by describing it as fresh, local and traditional produce with a truly modern twist.  The food is presented as a mini-work of art on the plate and aesthetically alone you know you’re in for something a bit special.  The ‘Posh Fish and Chips’ is a perfect example of a traditional dish that’s been given a make-over.  A beautifully pan fried fillet of Halibut, confit potatoes and a garden pea & mint puree replacing your typical battered cod, chips and mushy peas!

I went for the Roast Loin of Venison, any dish being served with caramelised pineapple and gin and tonic jelly deserved to be tried and I certainly wasn’t left disappointed.  It’s so easy for Chef’s these days to get so carried away in trying to be original and creating stand out dishes that the concept of all the elements of a dish complimenting each other can so easily be lost.  But Head Chef Alec Maxfield, who has worked at some of the best restaurants in the UK, including the two Michelin star Hambleton Hall in Rutland and The Fat Duck in Bray, clearly knows his stuff and refuses to make compromises in taste for the sake of being different.

So how to sum up The Electric Bar and Restaurant?  The building, the view, the drinks, the food and importantly the friendly and knowledgable staff make this one of the best destinations for an evening treat in Lincoln.  If you haven’t yet visited then be sure to put it to the top of your list.  If you have visited why not leave a review below?

My man and I went to the Electric Bar & Restaurant at the end of January.  We had cocktails in the bar area and then ate from the dine with wine for £20 menu (I think, available Monday to Thursday?).  The decor, ambiance, food, drinks and the fantastic waiting staff were all spot on.  Was well worth the money and one of the best meals out we’ve had out for a while (especially in Lincoln!).
