Lincolnista Review
An experience of Cafe Zoot is definitely an interesting one.
From the exterior of the restaurant, there are a lot of special offers, and although the place boasts to serve “quality produce at great value” this didn’t particularly shine from the outside. However once inside the surroundings were ok, fairly modern and fresh so it looked like an exciting place to eat.
Looking through the menu, there were some special offers to choose from and some from the ordinary menu. Choosing a sharing platter for two, it was a nice combination to try. On the plate were selections of duck pate, breaded camembert, sweet chilli beef and king prawns, these were all very nice, especially the pate which could be spread onto crispy fresh toast.
For main the Chicken Provencal seemed interesting enough, the chicken was to be doused in a rich tarragon and tomato ragu. However once the food arrived this didn’t seem to be the case, as the sauce definitely wasn’t rich, and you are left with the feeling that the place is trying to be a bit more up market than it possibly is.
Finally ending with a sweet pudding of chocolate brownies did improve the night, but still wasn’t the ‘quality produce’ I was hoping for.
When the restaurant is fairly quiet, the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, however when fully booked it can be overcrowded, with the owners trying to fit in too many people in a very small space. Tables can be so tightly compacted that you might as well make friends with the couple next to you, as you are going to hear their conversation all night. So overall, a nice place to eat but not as good as expected and make sure to go on a quiet night, to avoid sharing your meal with friendly strangers.
