Art Exhibition in Aid of Cancer Research UK.
Sunday, 25th April 2010
The beautiful location of Sir Joseph Banks Conservatory at The Lawn in Lincoln will be the host to a collection of nature inspired artwork in May.
Meleager’s Garden is the name of the exhibition which has been created by Anneka French and Rebecca Wombell, to raise money and awareness for Cancer Research UK.
The exhibition will explore themes of ‘biology, place, exploration, and history using both man-made and natural materials. The Sir Joseph Banks Conservatory is a tropical glasshouse, home to exotic plants, hundreds of brightly coloured flowers and a pond full of koi carp; the perfect location for an exhibition designed to appreciate the natural world.
The range of artwork from a selection of artists are inspired by different aspects of the conservatory’s name-sakes life; Sir Joseph Banks was a famous British explorer from Lincolnshire. An art installation by host Rebecca Wombell concentrates on Sir Banks’ rural Lincolnshire home; whilst drawings, prints, shell works, and clay sculptures by other artists focus on Banks’ spirit of discovery, exploring and his talent of being a great naturist and botanist of his time.
There will also be more practical art-forms such as poetry and performance pieces at the exhibition.
Meleager’s Garland exhibition will be open from 6 - 9pm on Sunday 30th May, then continues from 10am - 5pm on Monday 31st May.
