Tokyo Bar & Club to Open in old Constitutional Club
Friday, 17th June 2011
There has been many a rumour over a new club coming to Lincoln, but now it seems one of those rumours has come quite a long way to becoming a reality. The old Constitutional Club on the corner of Silver Street in Lincoln is to be turned into a Restaurant, Bar and Club by Tokyo Industries.
Vacant and derelict for some 15 years, the rather grand and impressive grade II listed building has been purchased by Tokyo Industries for an estimated £1million and there are reports of a total investment of £1.5 million which should see the iconic building become a pinnacle of nightlife for Lincoln.
Tokyo Industries are a big player in the nightlife industry with over 20 other venues across the country and a reputation for bringing big names to their clubs. Earlier this week the Lincolnshire Echo spoke to Aaron Mellor, Managing Director of Tokyo Industries and he confirmed that they’re aiming for an August bank holiday opening this year and have drafted in Calvin Harris and 2ManyDJs to start as we hope they mean to go on.
Taken from Tokyo’s website - “The plans include a restaurant on the ground floor, a 280 capacity live venue in the basement and a 1000 capacity club turning the former dance floor and debating chamber on its head”. However one worrying statement on their website also states that they are ‘awaiting grant finance’ which whilst fairly standard practice when converting buildings of historical importance to receive capital funding Lincolnista hopes as I’m sure you do that the funding is in place and that the opening date is realistic.
With an ever growing student population and other recent refurbishment of derelict buildings such as Wahoo also on Silver Street and Zizzi Restaurant coming to the Brayford it seems a fantastic time for further investment in our City.
