Lincolnista Review
Eating out of a dog’s bowl… I just don’t get it!
In the heart of Lincoln, Varsity is an historic building among the prissy shops. Soon to be refurbished, the pub has a warm atmosphere with plenty of sofas to watch people walk by- but during the weekends it’s the place to party before hitting the clubs.
There is a wide range of beers from real ales to soft drinks, which are all at reasonable prices. I had a cup of tea, which was brought over by a friendly member of staff. I got rather excited just because i got a biscuit with it, I thought this was a nice touch and plus everyone loves biscuits.
The food is designed towards students being low priced, and you can even eat out of a dog’s bowl! This didn’t appeal to me at all, but i noticed other customer’s were eating out of one, the extreme idea must have caught other people’s tongues. So anyway, I opted for a burger. It was tasty, (but arrived too quick for my liking) and my taste buds would of tingled more if it contained that ‘fresh’ taste.
There is a pool table in the lower area, which is dark and not as inviting as the rest as the pub. The open stairs lead to a platform to a smoking area and beer garden, which would be very pleasant if it wasn’t raining! The toilet facilities further up the stairs, were plentiful but defiantly needed updating -hopefully these will be completed in the refurbishment.
Also, if you lads want a place to watch football, then this is the place to park yourself. On the plasma screens located around the pub, every live match will be shown on Sky Sports or ESPN. So it’s not a place to sit and relax whilst a match is on!

Review by Steve AndrewsSubmitted on September 9th, 2011 at 4:10 pmhow chavvy is this place. the type of clientel that go in here is very low calibre. drunken people all over the place and the door staff are extremely rude and abrupt. the manager on duty didnt seem to care that people were waiting ages for their drinks and the toilets are in an awful condition. looks like the dont need to bother with the urinals in the gents!!
Review by critic queenSubmitted on August 8rd, 2011 at 10:19 pmGreat night life at times, i dont understand why its cheap drinks on a thursday, when student night is tuesdays.. You do have to watch out for the bosses sinde remarks, seen as well the floor staff seem very polite and approachable which is always nice and comforting, after the refurb, well what can i say, amazing it actually looks like a comfy living room. The critic rating? still however all doom and gloom conserning the ladys and gents to the pool table area ~ though the outside decking is quite a picture. The cushions and lighting bring this place back to life! Awesome. I wouldnt choose a better place to go, not quite but its getting there most definatly.
