Sunny Days
Sunday, 18th April 2010
Now the weather is looking up, I decided the reflect on the winter and the effect it had on my mood.
It’s not very often that I moan about the weather. I like getting wrapped up warm in the winter and I’m completely obsessed with flip-flops in the summer. However this year I’ve felt differently about it.
I’m not really sure why but I was in the most dreadful mood for all of winter and I am now putting it down to the weather. How long can someone put up with the cold, snow and rain before going insane? For me, its not a very long time.
I decided to research Seasonal Affective Disorder because before this year I didn’t really think it existed. Apparently it effects around half a million people every winter between September and April. I believe that I am one of these people. Symptoms consisting of depression, lethargy, over eating and anxiety would be what I’d say I have been suffering from and quite frankly, its rubbish!
So, over the last few days, I have made time for myself to be able to sit down and think logically about things. I even made lists of things that need to be done and prioritised them and all of a sudden I’m feeling a lot better. And look, the sun has finally decided to emerge from behind those dark clouds. It can’t all be that bad.
There’s a lot to be said for making time for you a little bit every day. Even if its sitting down to read that leaflet that came through your letter box or watching that ITV drama you recorded on your Sky plus box (yes, I have done both of these over the past couple of days) it can make the world of difference.
