Sex and the City 2 - A Woman’s Eye View
Saturday, 29th May 2010
Are you one of the many women that have dragged your other half to see one of the best films of this year?
Whilst sat anticipating the start of what is my most favourite TV series and films ever, I was looking round to see how many men there were in the audience. To my surprise, there were quite a few who had obviously been brought along having had no say in the matter. Too right!
The film was just what I expected and more! The fashion and perfectly placed comedy (there is a particular comment from Samantha that actually made my eyes stream) make for a wonderful viewing experience whether you’re on your own, with your partner or your girlfriends.
The film critics have it completely wrong. Compared to the first film, this one goes a lot deeper than just four women on the look-out for ‘the one’ and the perfect pair of shoes. They’re grown up and they understand what it takes to make a relationship work.
This is why, I believe, men find Sex and the City a kind-of guilty pleasure. Yes they might sit there and insist they’re just there to see the women and pick up tips from the men but secretly they want to learn. They want to be able to understand how women work (not sure that a nearly three hour film could cover it all) and probably even idolise Big or Aidan.
Any man that reads this will probably be thinking that I’m completely wrong. However, I’ve heard it straight from ‘the horse’s mouth’. As we were leaving the cinema, I picked up some of the whispering going on between some of the couples. “I wasn’t keen on the characters, but the story-line was really good,” and “I didn’t like it” *rolls eyes in an I LOVED it fashion*.
So for all of you that managed to get your man to the cinema to see it, well done! Will it change anything? Probably not but it might help them to understand when us girls mention “well Carrie said that…!”
