How to Train Your Dragon
Tuesday, 6th April 2010
A funny, engaging and highly enjoyable film suitable for all ages. I may be 19 but that doesn’t mean I’m too old to venture to the cinema to watch a classic kids film!
The trailer advertised a traditional light hearted, feel good family film- now who wouldn’t want to see that? The animated adventure was original, action packed, witty, emotional and compelling and all of this with of course a happy ending…come on it’s PG rated: a fairytale ending is a given!
The plot centres around a Viking village battling against local pests…dragons. The main character goes by the appropriately named ‘Hiccup’ who as you can probably guess is renowned for his clumsiness. He lacks the passion and skill of the other Vikings who strive for the heroic title of a dragon slayer. Throughout the film you see him constantly disappoint his father who just so happens to be the chief of the Viking tribe.
However, by the end of the film not only has Hiccup won the hearts of the dragons and his village he also makes his father very proud. I won’t spoil it and tell you why, you’ll have to watch it and find out. If you are put off with it being a children’s film- don’t be. It’s fun and enjoyable for all ages and leaves you, dare I say it, with a warm fuzzy feeling inside.
